This page summarizes the changes, comments and screenshots that we worked on while preparing the Usability changes in early February 2008. The changes are in SVN trunk now as of revision 561.

Remarks (partly copied from the mailing list)

  • You have had some interesting ideas and I like the look of the screenshots!
  • I think it's great idea. I was missing the quick view of a long description.
  • I like the idea of a search bar. Could be very useful.
  • With this gui, there is no way to view all of the current downloads at once.
  • The "progress" column is a bit too wide, taking away much screen space
  • The bottom title/description is unnecessary with the episode list patch
  • I like the "add feed" button on top off the feed. It's easier to find
  • What happens I you select more than one episode? (for episode info panel)
  • "update" under the feeds does not mean anything for me (the same for "update feeds" in the actual gui). What it actually does is looking for new episodes.
  • what about adding a small button (icon style) near the progress bar to cancel a running download (and one to pause if implemented someday)?
  • what about using the small free space on top of the episodes list (where "episode" is written in bold) to display current channel information (name, logo, description...)?

Resulting changes (now in SVN trunk)

  • "View" menu: "show toolbar" (ctrl+t) and "show descriptions" (ctrl+d)
  • Improved episode list columns (better space handling, etc..)
  • Removed resizable columns in episode list and description column
  • Add "Ctrl+L" as a shortcut for "add channel"
  • Move widgets around, like you suggested
  • Remove "update feeds" toolbar button and add new button in window
